Humble Scholarship Foundation announces 2014 student awards

Four years ago, Humble Surgical Hospital (HSH) launched the Humble Scholarship Foundation (HSF), which supports northeast Houston high school seniors who are going into the healthcare industry. In an effort to raise funds for this program, that year the annual HSF Golf Tournament, a fundraiser for the scholarship fund, was launched. Each year, hospital employees work to organize the golf tournament and then select high school seniors deserving of scholarships.

“The students submit an essay, and we choose from those to award three scholar¬ships,” says Debbie Cormier, HSH chief nursing officer/administrator. “We award $500, $1,500 and $2,000 prizes each year, and in 2014 we received the most essays ever. The scholarship program has been a huge success.”

The Humble Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce this year’s recipients include Patricia “Caroline” White, a senior at Kingwood High School who is pursuing the field of nursing; Kevin Jiang a senior at Atascocita High School who is interested in becoming a physician and Rachel Potts, who is graduating after being home-schooled and considering a career as an endocrinologist. The students were presented with their awards over the past two weeks.
