Debbie Cormier has worked in health care for the past 28 years, but her drive to help others began much earlier.

“Ever since I could remember, I wanted to do something in health care and help people who were sick,” she said. “I always hated standing on the sidelines and not being able to help. (Working in health care) was always what I wanted to do.”

For the past two and a half years, Cormier has worked at Humble Surgical Hospital, where she currently serves as chief administrative officer and chief nursing officer. In this role, she oversees the nursing staff and manages patient care.

“My function here is to make sure that our outcome for our patient care is not only quality, but safe, and everybody has a good experience and walks out better than when they came in,” Cormier said.

Cormier loves her job – particularly having the opportunity to work with a highly skilled staff of nurses and physicians.

“The quality of care (at Humble Surgical Hospital) is just so superb that it gets you excited every day,” she said. “Our physicians here are phenomenal, and their skills are just unbelievable. With such a great combination, you can’t help but want to come to work every day.”

When she’s not busy making sure that patients continue to receive excellent care during their stay at Humble Surgical Hospital, Cormier enjoys spending time with her two daughters and two grandchildren, as well as traveling in her RV.

Cormier also volunteers in the community whenever possible. She is actively involved with the Humble Scholarship Foundation, a nonprofit organization led by the employees of Humble Surgical Hospital that raises funds for scholarships to help seniors in Humble, Kingwood and Atascocita pursue their dreams of working in the health care industry. The foundation has awarded nine scholarships in the past three years, Cormier said.

The Humble Scholarship Foundation will host its fourth annual golf tournament Saturday, April 12, at the Oakhurst Golf Club, located at 20700 Mills Branch Road in Porter.
